USPS to Resume Mail to Canada on January 6th

The USPS said it would begin accepting mail and packages bound for Canada beginning Monday, January 6, 2025. Canada Post employees had gone on strike in mid-November and were forced back to work in mid-December. But because of the backlog of mail that needed to be processed and delivered, it needed weeks to catch up.

The USPS said in a statement on January 3, 2025. That Canada Post had made “significant progress in clearing delayed volumes caused by their employee strike, and now commercial and retail customers. As well as those using online systems. Will be able to send mail and packages to Canada once again,” beginning on the 6th.

The CBC news agency in Canada had written last month.

“The back-to-work order effectively ended a strike that started Nov. 15 over pay and other issues. The ongoing impasse brought mail delivery to a halt. And has had a significant impact on businesses and consumers.”

The fact that Canada’s mail was at a standstill for such an extended period of time, and that it came during the holiday shipping period. Appears to be unprecedented in recent history, when so many now rely on online delivery.

When the end of the strike was announced, eBay told Canadian sellers it would adjust seller protections and estimated delivery dates “once the scale of this backlog is better-known.”

eBay also kept US sellers informed

USPS to Resume Mail to Canada on January 6th. About the Canadian postal strike on the eBay.com Seller Announcement Board.
